Kevin C Reed, MD, FAAEM, is an attending physician working in the Emergency Department at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He is also an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital & MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He received his undergraduate degree from Brown University and medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He stayed on to complete his residency at the University of Maryland Medical System, serving as chief resident in his final year of training. After graduation he joined MedStar Health/MedStar Emergency Physicians and has been practicing in the DC/Baltimore region since. He has worked at community, urban and tertiary care sites and has served multiple ED leadership roles including vice-chair/chair. He presently serves as a Vice-Chief of service in Emergency Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. He is also a MedStar System Co-Chair for the Cord Compression Committee that works to improve outcomes and reduce system risk.
Dr. Reed joined AAEM in 2002 and for over 20 years has been a member of the Education Committee. He has served in multiple leadership roles including Vice-Chair and Chair of the Education Committee and helped create the one-of-a-kind Speaker Development Group. He was honored to be selected for the AAEM Joe Lex Educator of the Year Award in 2017.
Dr. Reed was also elected President Elect for the DC Capitol Region AAEM Chapter in December 2023 to help further support local members and engage in advocacy on both the local and national levels.
Dr. Reed lives in Kensington, MD with his wife, Herlene, and two rescue dogs and has two college-age children. In his free time, he enjoys swimming/open-water swimming, long dog walks and cheering for any Pittsburgh sports team.
