Description: EMTALA is often thought of as only pertaining to hospitals. However, more recent case law, as well as the historical roots of EMTALA, pertain directly to EMS physicians, EMS leadership and EMS providers. This session is designed to:
- Recognize the value of the historical context surrounding the events leading to the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA).
- Recognize potential EMTALA violations and high risk scenarios.
- Recognize the value EMS physicians can provide to the coordination of care for the transfer and transport of the ill and injured.
