As Thanksgiving approaches, I reflect on what I am grateful for and what I hope for in the coming year. It’s easy to focus on challenges, but this season reminds us to center on what matters most. For me that is the relationships that I have in my life. My amazing wife and our four fantastic adult children and the incredible individuals they share their lives with, as well as the remainder of my extended family, receive top billing in my prayer of thanksgiving.
Additionally, I am thankful for my friends and colleagues who inspire me every day. I am grateful for the privilege of serving as president of AAEM, connecting with so many passionate members, and working alongside those who believe deeply in our mission.
This year, I am especially thankful for what we’ve accomplished together. Our success in driving Envision from the state of California is a testament to the power of our collective voice. I look forward to building on this momentum in the year ahead, continuing to fight for fairness, transparency, and the values we hold dear in emergency medicine.
To our members, thank you for all you contribute to AAEM and for the tireless work you do every day. You are the foundation of the Academy, and your dedication inspires hope for the future.
To the extraordinary AAEM staff, thank you for your expertise and dedication to the Academy. Without you and your skills we would not accomplish what we do.
My wish for 2024 is that AAEM continues to earn a place on your list of things to be thankful for. Together, we can make a difference—for each other, for our patients, and for our specialty.
Happy Thanksgiving,
